Q. Is this floor prefinished? If so, with what?
A. Yes, the Vintage Bridgeport handscraped solid oak floor already has a UV cured finish applied to it. No additional finish is needed and no waxing is ever needed. Vintage Bridgeport is finished using a German Manufactured Treffic Brand Aluminum oxide finish.
Q. Is Vintage Bridgeport an engineered floor? Can I install it over a concrete subfloor?
A. Vintage Bridgeport is not an engineered floor. It cannot be installed over concrete. It is for use over a wooden subfloor with a traditional nail down installation method only.
Q. How many times can this floor be sanded and refinished?
A. The amount of sandings depends on how much wood is taken off each time. A general rule for 3/4" thick floors is 4-5 sandings.
Q. Is Vintage Bridgeport actually handscraped by hand or is it done by machine?
A. Vintage Bridgeport utilizes no machine scraping. Each plank is individually handscraped. No plank is identical.
Q. Is it random length? And if so, what are the approximate lengths?
A. Yes, it is a true random length hardwood floor. Various lengths will come prepacked in a carton box. The longest will likely be 48" to 52" and then a variety of lengths down to about 18" is common.
The Vintage Bridgeport Solid Oak Plank installs using the traditional nail down method over a wooden subfloor. Installing a traditional nail down, prefinished floor is a project for both the Do It Yourself homeowner or a professional flooring installer. Using a 15 gauge nail and Pneumatic Flooring nailer, the nail is driven in at an angle through the top of the tongue. Placing the groove of the next plank over the tongue conceals the nail.
